How to Draw Your Space Plan

Drawing your space plan is quick and easy! Your drawing is the most important part of starting this design process because it allows us to see the size & scale of the area we are working in. Please read the steps below and follow the instructions when making your own space plan drawing. Thank you!

Step 1 - Start by Outlining the Walls, Door Swings, Openings and Windows

Use a thick black marker to draw this outline. Use straight lines for walls, Use the “cone” shape for doors to show the swing. And use a rectangle on top of the wall to show windows. Use white spaces to show openings such as open hallways, framed openings, etc.

Step 1

Step 2- Draw Dimension Lines

Use a thin pen (preferably in a blue ink, but black is fine too) in order to show dimension lines. A dimension line has 2 thick edges to show the ends and one long thin line in the middle to show the overall length.

Step 2

Step 3- Write the Dimensions

Using the same pen, write down the dimensions for each window, door, opening and wall (total length and sides of window). It’s important to show the overall lengths and the dimension breakdowns so we can place the window or door on the right part of the wall.

Step 3

Step 4- Outline Cabinets, Sink and Appliances

The final drawing step is to show us where your existing cabinets, sink and large appliances are. Use a thin line for this. FR indicates Fridge. DW indicates DW. and SI indicates sink. Please tell us in your email if you want your cabinets, sink and appliances to stay in the same location or if you are open to them being moved.

Step 4

SEND IT! - Now it’s time for you to SAVE your final drawing. You do this by taking a photo of it. Make sure the photo is clear and that your entire drawing is within the shot. Then email us your 1 final drawing with everything on it. Thank you!
